Panic As Man Commits Suicide In Edo Court complex During Proceeding

A sixty-five-year-old man, Mr Moses Airiagbonkpa, on Monday fell from the fifth floor of the Edo High Court complex and died.

The incident threw workers and visitors to the complex into panic as many wondered what led to the fall.

The deceased, who was in court because of a case, was said to have excused himself from members of his family, who accompanied him to the court, to use the restroom when he fell.

A kinsman of the deceased, Mr Johnson Obanor, who spoke to journalists on the incident, said he was shocked by Airiagbonkpa’s death as the family members were waiting for him to return from the restroom.

Obanor stated, “Three of us came here this morning (Monday and we entered the court and sat down. We later discovered that the court was not sitting. When our lawyer arrived, she went to the table to pick a new date.

“He (Airiagbonkpa) got up and told us that he wanted to urinate and we told him to return early so that we could go home after the lawyer might have picked a new date.

“After picking the date, we waited for a long period but he did not show up. So, we assumed that he had gone downstairs to wait for us where we parked our vehicle.

“Then I told the other man that we should go to the parking lot to check if he was there but unfortunately, we did not see him. We sat down in the vehicle and tried to contact him but he was not picking his calls.

“We decided to search for him within the court premises and met a lawyer, who asked us to join the crowd to climb up the staircase.
