Oyo: Lanlehin withdraws from PDP coalition

The governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Oyo State, Chief Olufemi Lanlehin, has announced his withdrawal from the coalition that produced the electoral victory for Governor Seyi Makinde.

He hinged his withdrawal on alleged breach of the terms of agreements reached before the March 9 governorship election.

Lanlehin and Chief Sharafadeen Alli joined forces with Makinde to defeat the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate Adebayo Adelabu in the election.

Their victory sent the APC packing after eight years of reign in the state.

Alli was the governorship candidate of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP).

Lanlehin, who joined the ADC along with Sen. Rashidi Ladoja a few months before the election, also led the break-away faction of the APC the Unity Forum in the ADC. They polled about 30 per cent of the entire votes cast in the National Assembly election.

In his statement on Tuesday, Lanlehin said his withdrawal was personal, pointing out that the ADC as a party could remain in the coalition.

Lanlehin said he remained “a committed member of the ADC”, adding that he “would adopt a “siddon look” posture in the governance of Oyo State and allied matters”

When contacted, Mr. Taiwo Adisa, who is the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Makinde, promised to get back for his principal’s reaction.
