Oyo 2019: Ajimobi’s commissioner joins Oyo guber race

Dr. Azeez Adeduntan, the Oyo State Commissioner for Health, has declared his readiness to succeed his boss, Gov. Abiola Ajimobi, in 2019.

Adeduntan made the disclosure on Thursday in Ibadan during his visit to the state secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to express his interest in the race.

NAN reports that the cardiovascular surgeon was received by APC executives, led by its Chairman, Chief Akin Oke.

The commissioner was a former governorship candidate of Labour Party in the state during the 2011 governorship election, which he lost to Ajimobi.

Adeduntan expressed readiness to continue with the ongoing transformation, restoration and repositioning agenda of the Ajimobi-led administration.

“Ajimobi has dualised roads in Iseyin, Ogbomoso, Saki and Okeho. Playing ethnic politics would not help the state. All the state needs is a competent and not sectional leader,’’ he said.

Adeduntan stated that MKO Abiola, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, Late Umaru Yar’Adua and President Muhammadu Buhari won elections in the country not on the basis of their state of origin.

“I am proud of this government and all it has done in terms of infrastructure, education, agriculture, health and human capital development,” he said.
