Oyo 2019: Adebayo Shittu’s Faction ‘Dumps’ APC In Oyo
The lingering crisis rocking the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State on Tuesday took another dimension as a faction within the party, APC Unity Forum, announced its decision to leave the party for another one where its interest would be protected.
Public Relations Officer (PRO), of the faction, Mr. Wasiu Olawale Sadare made this announcement via his Facebook page.
Recalled that the party, in the last couple of months, has been enmeshed in crisis over which of the faction will have the control of the soul of the party.
The two warring factions battling for the soul of the party are the one loyal to the state governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi was known as SENACO and the one loyal to a former governor of the state, Alhaji Lamidi Adesina known as LAMISTS now called Unity Forum.
The crisis culminated in the factionalisation of the party which made the two groups hold parallel local government congresses a few weeks ago.
The two factions later conducted parallel state congresses a week after the parallel local government congresses were held.
Sadare, in his Facebook post, said the destination of the faction will be announced in few days.
He wrote, “Breaking: Unity Forum leaves Oyo APC… Destination to be announced in few days”.
However, all efforts made by our correspondent to get more details about the defection have proved abortive as calls made to Sadare’s phone number were not going through.
Our correspondent learnt that the planned defection may not be unconnected with the inauguration of Chief Akin Oke as the chairman of the party despite his rejection by the Unity Forum members.
Members of the Forum include the Minister of Communications, Barrister Adebayo Shittu, Senator Monsurat Sunmonu (Oyo Central), 9 House of Representatives members among whom are; Hon. Adedapo Lam Adesina (Ibadan North East/ Ibadan South East) Hon. Sunday Adepoju (Ido/ Ibarapa East), Hon. Sunbo Olugbemi (Oluyole), Hon. Michael Akintola (Egbeda Ona-Ara), Hon.
