Over 210,000 Nigerians demand ban of Marlian Music label after MohBad’s mysterious death
The death of Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, better known as MohBad, a former signee of Marlian Music label, has sparked outrage and controversy among Nigerians who are calling for the ban of the music label owned by Naira Marley, a popular singer and rapper.
More than 210,000 people have signed a petition on Change.org to demand justice for MohBad and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
MohBad, a 27-year-old rising star in the music industry, died on Tuesday and was buried on Wednesday.
However, the cause of his death remains unclear and suspicious as there are conflicting reports and allegations. His father, Joseph Aloba, claimed that MohBad died after an auxiliary nurse injected him with an unknown substance.
But some sources alleged that MohBad was involved in a feud with Naira Marley and Sam Larry Elegushi, a music promoter, who threatened his life.
Newsflash Nigeria reported that MohBad had submitted a petition of threat to life to the Lagos State Police Command before his death, indicating that he had a fallout with Naira Marley over his contract with Marlian Music label.
The police said they have commenced an investigation to determine the nature of MohBad’s death and that his body might be exhumed from the grave for autopsy.
Naira Marley, however, denied any involvement in MohBad’s death and said he never wished any harm on him. He said he was ready to assist the police in uncovering foul play around MohBad’s death.
He also said that there were some disagreements that led to MohBad leaving the record label, but the love for him was always there.
The petition on Change.org, which was initiated by an anonymous blogger, called for a thorough investigation of the Marlian Music brand and Sam Larry Elegushi.
It also urged the government to ban the music label for allegedly exploiting and endangering young talents. The petition has garnered over 210,000 signatures as of Saturday and is still gaining momentum.
