Osinbajo Meets Nigeria’s Oldest Surviving Soldier In Lagos

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has met Nigeria’s oldest surviving soldier, rtd Amuda Aluko, at the grand finale of the 2019 Nigerian Army Day Celebration and Combat Support Arms Training Week.

Newsflash247 reports that Osinbajo met the 104-year-old on Saturday when he represented President Muhammadu Buhari at the event held at Ikeja Cantonment parade ground in Lagos.

Since 1976, Nigerian Army Day has been celebrated every July 6.

The Vice President tweeted his encounter with the retired soldier.

“Sometimes on the job, I get to meet incredible people. Today, I met perhaps Nigeria’s oldest surviving soldier, 104 year-old, RTD Private Amuda Aluko at the Army Day Celebrations.

“He is almost as old as the Amalgamation of the the protectorates that became Nigeria,” Osinbajo said.

At the event, Mr Buhari pledged his administration’s political will and determination towards ridding the country of insurgency and other forms of criminalities.

He urged the judiciary to ensure timely dispensation of justice in the cases of arrested bandits.

“Several bandits’ hideouts and camps have been destroyed and hundreds of arrests have been made.

“It is now up to our Judiciary to ensure that justice is meted out, not just comprehensively, but in a timely manner,” he said.

Buhari added that his administration would intensify efforts to bring back the remaining Chiboks girls, Leah Shuaribu, and others who were still in Boko Haram captivity.
