Ooni of Ife’s Claim on Igbo Origin Sparks Mixed Reactions on Social Media
The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, has stirred up a controversy on social media after he claimed that there is evidence showing that the Igbo race actually migrated from Ile-Ife.
The monarch made this statement on Saturday while speaking with reporters at his palace. He said that there is evidence that the Igbo race has its roots in Ile-Ife, and that there is a place called Ile-Igbo in the palace, which has been existing for decades.
He also challenged the academia in Nigerian universities to properly document the history of the Yoruba race rather than relying on biased and distorted sources.
However, his claim has generated mixed reactions from netizens on the micro-blogging platform, X. Some agreed with him and praised him for revealing the truth, while others disagreed and accused him of spreading falsehood and propaganda.
Some also questioned his motive and credibility, and asked him to provide proof and references for his claim. Some also made jokes and memes about his statement and his marital status.
