Ondo Poll: 1.47m eligible to vote in 3,009 polling units – INEC
The Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, while speaking at the event assured that a total of 33,783 Police officers will be deployed for the election while the service of the military will be engaged to protect interstate borders.
Five days to the Ondo State governorship election, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has revealed that only 1,478,460 Residents of Ondo state will vote across the 3,009 polling units in the state.
The state Resident electoral commissioner, Dr. Rufus Oloruntoyin Akeju made this disclosure on Monday, while assuring stakeholders a free and fair conduct of the election.
Akeju spoke at a stakeholders meeting organized by INEC in Akure, convened by the Chairman of the commission, Professor Yakubu Mamhud.
According to Yakubu Mahmud:
“I have been in Ondo state for the past two days and I am very impressed with the level of preparedness of the commission to conduct a free and fair election. From the Edo state election, we have identified sixteen (16) areas of improvement.”
The Ondo REC also enjoined security operatives to ensure that any form of violence is neutralized during the poll.

“As we are all aware, there has been some form of violence by some political actors in the state particularly in Akoko and Ipele axis. We will not hesitate to bring lawbreakers to book irrespective of their status.”
“Parents and guardians should warn their wards against the nonprofitable act of electoral violence.” He added.
Also at the event were the Director General of NYSC, Brigadier General Shuaibu, Royal Fathers from across the state, Political Party leaders, Civil Society Organizations and other stakeholders.
