The health condition of Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, has become a subject of debate on social media after his wife, Betty Akeredolu, shared a photo of him on the X platform formerly known as Twitter on Monday, 4th September.
The photo showed the governor receiving a visit from Senator Niyi Adegbonmire in Germany, where he has been on medical leave since June this year. His wife added a hashtag indicating that he would soon return to Nigeria.
However, the photo elicited mixed reactions from social media users, who expressed different opinions on the governor’s health and his ability to govern the state.
Some users prayed for his quick recovery and return to governance, while others urged him to resign and focus on his health.
Some users also advised his wife to stop sharing his photos on social media and limit the visits to him while he recuperates.
Governor Akeredolu has been away from office for over three months and his medical leave was extended indefinitely by the Ondo State House of Assembly in July. His deputy, Hon Lucky Ayedatiwa, has been acting as the governor in his absence.
Here are some of the comments that followed the photo:
@Emmanue94098366: Madam first lady, I don’t know how you feel anytime you post a picture of gov Akeredolu looking this way, allow this man to convalesce in peace. He needs privacy and not this public display.
@JustEmmanuel101: This is a very exciting news. We pray for his speedy recovery! Ondo state misses him. South West APC misses his leadership!
@PrinceofSydney: I pray for a full recovery for him. @charlly_cares10: African leaders and holding to power. What stops him from resigning and focusing on his health. This man has been away from office now for months.
@masonsokun4real: Wishing him quick recovery.
@abbeyResearches: Great news. So happy to hear this. But to be frank. I would advise that the Governor takes as much time he needs to recuperate than worrying himself about government. Is health and full return to fitness is my ultimate joy!
