Ondo election: PDP candidate, Jegede reveals next step after losing the election
Akinmoyo thanked the people of the state for voting for their conscience during the polls and commended the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members for working hard for the party.
The spokesman of the Eyitayo Jegede campaign organisation, Gbenga Akinmoyo, has said that the team is waiting on God, after his principal was defeated in the Ondo Governorship election.
Akinmoyo stated this during an interview on Channels Television in Akure on Sunday.
“This project is a project that God has ordained. As it is so, we wait. So we wait on God,” he said.
On Sunday, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced the incumbent Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, as the winner of the poll.
Akeredolu won 15 out of 18 local governments, with Jegede winning the remaining three.
Akinmoyo thanked the people of the state for voting for their conscience during the polls and commended the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members for working hard for the party.
“For the benefit of the general public, we will like to thank all the Ondo State voters who went to the polls yesterday and voted for their conscience,” he added.
Meanwhile, Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, has expressed shock over the number of votes he received in three of the 18 local government areas of the State.
According to Akeredolu, who described the election results of Akure South, Akure North and Ifedore local governments where he lost as a shock, he had thought that he would win across the 18 council areas of the State.
The governor disclosed this during an interview on Channels Television.
Recall that Akeredolu who was the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, defeated his rival, Eyitayo Jegede who is the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, as well as his deputy, Agboola Ajayi who flew the flag of Zenith Labour Party, ZLP at the polls.
Akeredolu maintained that he worked in the three local governments situated in the Central Senatorial district where the PDP candidate, Jegede hails from.
“When it comes to the issue of winning 15 local governments, it’s just a slight improvement of what I did the last time. The last time I won 14. Talking seriously, I thought I was going to win the 18 local governments.
“I’m shocked at what happened in Akure because I take Akure South, Akure North and Ifedore as one Akure. So, I’m shocked at the development there.
“But I’ll put that behind me. I’ll move forward. I thought I would win in Akure because I worked in those three local governments where people turned against us. But it’s alright by me. We’ll forget it,” he said.
