Ondo Deputy Governor Continues to Act as Akeredolu Extends Medical Leave Indefinitely
The Ondo State House of Assembly has approved an extension of the medical leave of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu. The Governor, who was expected to resume duties on July 7, will now take more time to rest after recovering from his illness.
The Speaker of the House, Olamide Oladiji, said the extension was based on the doctor’s advice that the Governor needed more rest to fully regain his health.
He said the Governor sent a letter of extension in line with section 190 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).
The Speaker said the Governor also stated in the letter that his Deputy, Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, would continue to act as Governor until he returns to his office. He did not specify a date for the Governor’s resumption.
The Speaker expressed gratitude to God for the speedy recovery of the Governor and hoped that he would soon resume his duty. He also commended the Deputy Governor for his performance in managing the affairs of the state in the absence of the Governor.
Governor Akeredolu began his medical leave last month and travelled abroad for treatment.
He did not disclose the nature of his ailment, but assured the people of Ondo that he was in good condition and would be back soon.
