Ondo Agog As Governor Akeredolu Returns To Akure
The people of Ondo State Trooped out en-mass on Friday to welcome the Governor of Ondo State, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN, popularly knows as “Aketi” who has returned to Akure, the state capital after more than two months exile to the state.
The visibly happy people of the state trooped out en-mass to welcome their governor who has been attending to some official assignments in Abuja, FCT, for some weeks.
While in Abuja, Governor Akeredolu received an award of the African innovative governor of the year.
He also witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with medicus International, Germany.
The Governor also attended the Nigeria Governors’ Forum meeting and hosted the Southwest Governors’ Forum meeting at the state Lodge, Asokoro Abuja.
Akeredolu also attended the monthly National Economic Council Meeting, met with the new country director of the world bank, received the National Leader of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and some members of the National Working Committee of the APC.
Meanwhile, Newsflash247 had earlier reported that there is uneasy calm in Ondo State over whereabouts of the state Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.
Akeredolu, who was billed to be back from his annual vacation on October 4, 2019, has not been sighted in the state or at any other function within and outside the state since his vacation elapsed.
Meanwhile, with the #WhereIsAketi trending in the state, there have been rumours making the rounds as regards the state of health of the governor with the claim that he is indisposed and currently being treated at an undisclosed location.
Further raising questions as to the governor’s well-being, Akeredolu was on Thursday, October 17 conspicuously missing when President Buhari received governors of nine states comprising the Niger Delta Development Commission Board at the State House.
With the deputy of other state governors representing their bosses who could not make it to the meeting, Hon. Agboola Ajayi, who had ceased to function as Acting Governor since the expiration of the governor’s leave was also absent at the Presidential Villa.
While the meeting about the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, was going on at the State House in Abuja, the Deputy Governor was, however, in Lagos representing the governor at the wedding ceremony of the daughter of the Commissioner for Finance in the state, Wale Akinterinwa.
Reacting to the rumoured ill health of Akeredolu, the state Commissioner for Information, Mr. Donald Ojogo, stated that the governor is in good condition as he has been attending to series of meetings in Abuja.
Ojogo added that upon resumption from his annual vacation, Akeredolu has decided to stay back at Abuja in the interest of the state, stressing that he would soon return to the state.
“We have been hearing all manners of things about the governor, but I want to tell you that those are insinuations from those who don’t mean well for this state.
“Mr. Governor went for his annual vacation. After spending 10 days from it, he came back to attend to some domestic issues and shortly after his daughter’s wedding, he proceeded for the rest of the vacation and returned on October 4, (2019). Since then he has been in Abuja to attend to many important issues, including political meetings because he does not want to be going to Abuja every day.
“So, Akeredolu is not hospitalized as it is being insinuated. His absence has not affected the governance in the state. But we don’t want to be frivolous with anybody. What they are peddling is not true. Those stories are from those who don’t mean well for this state.”
As residents of Ondo State continue to await the appearance of their governor in the state, they are expecting to catch a glimpse of him on Saturday, October 19, 2019, when he will be conferred with the award of the Best Innovative Governor in Africa by AfricanStride International in Abuja.
Newsflash247 also reported that the Ondo State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has requested that the true health status of Governor of Ondo State, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, be disclosed.
The opposition party in a statement issued on Friday, October 18 and made available to newsmen, wished Akeredolu quick recovery.
It also stated that the people of Ondo State deserve to know if the governor can still carry out his constitutionally required functions without impediment.
Newsflash247 had earlier reported how the continued absence of Akeredolu from the state following the expiration of his annual vacation leave, which ended on October 4, 2019 has been raising eyebrows on his whereabouts.
In the statement by Zadok Akintoye, the Director, Media and Publicity,
Ondo State PDP stated that, “If true, we express our concern on the state of health of the governor and do wish him quick and perfect recovery.
“Our party also wishes to request that the true status of the health of the Governor be made known to the public as soon as possible and that if he is incapacitated in performing his duties, the Ondo House of Assembly should ensure that the process of governance is not impeded by the Governors’ ill health.
“The import of the absence of Mr. Governor and/or his Deputy at the meeting of Niger Delta Governors with the President on Thursday, underlines our concern; as Ondo state (being one of the Niger Delta states and a major stakeholder in the happenings at the NDDC) was not adequately represented in the discussions.
“Once again, our prayers goes to the Governor and we wish him perfect recovery (if this allegation is true).
“We enjoin all citizens to remain calm as we await an official response on the state of health of the Governor,” the statement read.
