Ogun Govt Launches Jobs Portal

The Ogun State Government, on Thursday, finally launched the much publicized jobs portal for residents of the state, Newsflash247 reports.

Newsflash247 had reported that the state government said it was launching a dedicated website to ease job application and also to know the number of unemployed in the state.

Dignitaries who graced the occasion include the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, and other top government functionaries.

Our correspondent who monitored the event reports that the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, also announced the appointment of Jobberman’s co-founder, Mr Lekan Olude as Special Adviser on Job Creation and Youth Empowerment.

During the event, a two-hour test run was held where over 5,000 applications were received. 20 applicants were given automatic employment right there at the launch.

A statement issued by Governor Abiodun and made available to Igbere TV, on Friday, reads…

“Today(on Thursday) in Abeokuta, we officially launched the much anticipated Ogun Jobs Portal which is one of the initiatives of our government to take the good people of Ogun State out of unemployment while also bettering the career chances of the employed and business owners.

“The Portal is particularly suited to prepare our people to fit into appropriate sectors, while we currently revitalise all the sectors of our State’s economy.

“It also provides a daily registration platform that avails both the unemployed and the employed, job and training opportunities, in a bid to continuously tackle Nigeria’s 23.1 per cent unemployment rate.

“As a government, we are aware that this cannot be singlehandedly done but in cooperation with the private sector through a viable Public-Private Partnership (PPP).

“We are currently working on a Local Content Bill which would be sent to the State House of Assembly and on its return, ensure that investors look inward the State for human resources when they site their companies here.

“Also, Mr Lekan Olude, co-founder of Jobberman, a leading human resource management firm, has been appointed Special Adviser on Job Creation and Youth Empowerment to facilitate collaboration with employers and agencies.

“I am glad to announce that because of the staggering 5,000-candidate response we got when we earlier did a 2-hour test run, 20 job applicants were immediately given employment at the Launch.

“On this note, I implore the good people of Ogun State, especially the youth, to make the best use of this socio-economic initiative that is open to all, and shun crime and violence.”
