Nursing Mother Stabs Husband to Death over Noodles Dinner in Ibadan
A nursing mother, Damilola Opeyemi, has been remanded in Abolongo Correctional facility, Oyo Town, by a Magistrates’ Court sitting at Iyaganku in Ibadan, for allegedly stabbing her husband to death over a noodles dinner.
The court did not take her plea and ordered that she be kept in custody pending legal advice from the Oyo State Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP). The case was adjourned until Sept. 27, for mention.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Damilola is facing a charge of murder for killing her husband, Oluwashina, 27, on July 4, at about 8.30p.m at their residence in Adogba Ajegede area, Ibadan.
The police prosecutor, Insp. Olalekan Adegbite, told the court that Damilola stabbed her husband during a fight over noodles dinner.
He said that the offence contravenes the provisions of Section 316 and punishable under Section 319 of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State 2000.
The motive behind the fatal stabbing is still unclear, but some reports suggest that Damilola was angry that her husband had eaten all the noodles she had prepared for their dinner and left none for her.
Other reports claim that the couple had a history of domestic violence and that Damilola acted in self-defence after her husband attacked her. The police are still investigating the incident and are expected to present their findings to the DPP for legal advice.
The incident has sparked outrage in Ibadan, with many people calling for Opeyemi to be brought to justice.
