Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State, on Monday, said the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State has taken a position that his deputy, Professor Kolapo Olusola, will be the candidate of the party in the July governorship election in the state.
Fayose, who stated this in his speech at a rally organised by Osoko Mass Movement (OMM) a socio-political
Fayose said: “We have come to stay and stay for good. We want to stay with good work, good performance, evidence of service, leadership quality, a governor that is accessible.
“We have taken a position. We have no apology for that position. We are not sorry for that position. We are not going to apologise for that position.
“And I am going to repeat myself, we have taken a position, we are not going to say sorry, that position is Olusola Eleka for Governor.”
“It doesn’t matter how many people are barking. If a dog barks, what can it do with his owner? If they want to join our enemies let them do so. This is the next governor of Ekiti State. We will announce latter and we won’t be taken unaware. The Bible says, in God, we see hope of glory.”
He repeated his criticism of the federal government led by the All Progressives Congress (APC), saying “when a government is failing, it is the leaders and the leadership that has failed. When there is Boko Haram, when there are herdsmen and when the economy is down, the government has failed.”
“They have promised all and did nothing, unlike ours, which is a government that started with nothing, and have delivered on so many fronts.”
Fayose stated that the solidarity rally was only to precede the main rally where Olusola would formally declare his intention to contest the governorship election at a later date.
Addressing the large crowd earlier, Olusola said if Fayose, without any godfather, could achieve so much, he was sure of doing great too with Fayose providing the guidance for him.
He said: “Look at the history of our state, some years back, we were hopeless and lost direction. By June 21, 2014, God brought a saviour to our state in the person of Governor Peter Ayodele Fayose. Under his watch, we have repositioned education and other sectors. The same teachers that would have been sacked are now performing well.
“It is because light has come to our state. We won’t allow retrogression in our state and there must be continuity. We are going to sustain the excellent foundation laid by our leader, Governor Ayodele Fayose.”
Many leaders of the PDP in the state and political office holders graced the occasion.
