NNPCL, Subsidiary record first oil production in OML 13 in Akwa Ibom
NNPC Exploration and Production Limited, the premier upstream subsidiary, in collaboration with Natural Oilfield Services Ltd. (NOSL), part of Sterling Oil Exploration & Energy Production Company Ltd. (SEEPCO), has proudly initiated oil extraction activities at Oil Mining Lease (OML) 13, located in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria.
NNPCL’s representative, Olufemi Soneye, made the announcement in a recent statement.
The venture began on May 6, 2024, producing an initial 6,000 barrels of oil per day, with plans to escalate production to 40,000 barrels daily by May 27, 2024.
This inaugural extraction at OML 13 marks a significant achievement in the partnership between NNPC E&P Ltd and NOSL, underscoring their commitment to fostering progress in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry—a crucial sector for the country’s economic framework.
This milestone is not just the result of intensive planning and diligent work by the respective teams but also heralds a new chapter of economic prosperity and growth prospects for the surrounding communities.
“The commencement of oil production at OML 13 is particularly meaningful for Nigeria as it contributes to the nation’s strategy to augment its oil production capabilities, which is essential for satisfying local energy demands and propelling economic advancement,” Soneye stated.
He further emphasized that the alliance between NNPC E&P Ltd. and NOSL is dedicated to conducting operations that are safe, environmentally conscious, and advantageous for the local populace.
This development is part of a broader initiative to boost Nigeria’s crude oil output.
It is noteworthy that, according to the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries’ March oil report, Nigeria experienced a decline in production to 1.23 million barrels per day in the month of March.
