NIPR Appeals NBC For Reopening Of Ekiti Broadcasting Service
Members of the Ekiti State chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) have appealed to the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) for the reopening of the Broadcasting Service of Ekiti State (BSES), shut down in the wake of July 14 governorship election in the state.
The NIPR, however, pleaded with NBC to be compassionate in considering the immediate reopening of the broadcast station if only for the sake of the employees of the organisation, who are now bearing the burden and effects of the closure of the station,” the group pleaded.
This was even as the public relations professionals congratulated the Ekiti State Governor-elect, Dr. John Kayode Fayemi on his victory and election at the recently held gubernatorial election. Rising from its monthly business meeting, held at Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, the NIPR, which reviewed the outcome of the recent poll, commended the people of the state for the prevailing peace before, during and after the election.
The institute in a statement signed by its state Chairman, Prince Ade Adeyemi-Adejolu, urged the governor-elect to see his election as a call to service to better the lots of the people of the state, and as an opportunity to rededicate himself to the noble ideals for which the Ekiti State and its people are known for.
Meanwhile, the group pleaded with Fayemi to be magnanimous in victory by seeing the entire state as his constituency irrespective of political and religious leaning, calling on other candidates at the poll to be gallant in defeat, bearing in mind that if they didn’t win today, there would always be another day.
“We further urged Ekiti people and all political stakeholders to appreciate the prevailing peace after the election as an opportunity to come together as one to build the Ekiti dream of their forebears for the benefits of generations yet unborn,” the statement added.
