Nigeria Covid-19 Updates: List of 16 States with Confirmed Coronavirus Cases and their number

Following President Muhammadu Buhari’s directive to lockdown the country in order to battle the spread of Covid-19, otherwise known as Coronavirus, sixteen States so far and Abuja have been confirmed in Nigeria since the first case of Coronavirus disease was reported in Nigeria with at least one case.

Nigeria recorded its first case of Covid-19 after an Italian national tested positive to the virus on February 27.

As of Wednesday night, April 8, Nigeria has recorded 276 cases, including six deaths.

The disease has caused the death of over 70,000 people globally.

According to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), on Wednesday night, April 8, has announced the confirmation of another 20 new cases of COVID-19, otherwise known as Coronavirus in the country.

NCDC made the announcement Wednesday night on its official twitter account.

With the new 20 cases, Nigeria now has 276 confirmed cases and 6 deaths of the Coronavirus disease.

A tweet on the NCDC’s official Twitter handle, said fifteen of the new cases were recorded in Lagos State, two in Bauchi, one in Edo and four in the FCT, the country capital.

“Twenty new cases of #COVID19 have been reported in Nigeria: 15 in Lagos, 4 in the FCT, 2 in Bauchi, 1 in Edo.

“As at 09:00 pm 8th April there are 276 confirmed cases of #COVID19 reported in Nigeria. Forty-four have been discharged with six deaths”

Following the confirmation of new cases on Wednesday night, sixteen states and Abuja in Nigeria now have at least one case.

The states with confirmed cases are:

Lagos- 145      

FCT- 54       

Osun- 20  

Oyo- 11

Edo- 12

Bauchi- 8

Akwa Ibom- 5

Kaduna- 5

Ogun- 4

Enugu- 2

Ekiti- 2

Rivers-2

Benue- 1

Ondo- 1

Kwara – 2

Delta -1

Kastina – 1

Lagos State, which has the highest number of confirmed cases in the country.

So far, most of the infected people are those who have recently returned to the country from high-risk countries.

More cases of COVID-19 are still expected to be reported in the country.

The government has intensified contact tracing to track those who might have been in contact with the infected people, some of whom have already found and tested positive to the virus.

Four government officials have so far tested positive for the virus.

Abba Kyari, Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, was the first to test positive. The governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, is the second senior government official to test positive for the virus.

The governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, is the third senior government official to test positive for the virus while the governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, is the fourth senior government official to test positive for the virus but recovered from the virus.

Many other top officials have also commenced self-isolation.
