Newly Sworn in Kano Rep(PDP) who defeated Abdulmumin Jubrin defects to APC
There is a mild drama at Kano State, on Thursday, January 30, when Ali Datti-Yako, the candidate of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the last Saturday’s rerun election for Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency has reportedly defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, in the state.
Recall that Yako who defeated former chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Appropriation Abdulmumin Jibrin of APC with a 35,094 vote margin. Yako scored 48,601 votes, Mr Jibrin got 13,507 votes.
Barely two days after Yako was announced winner of the election, the lawmaker-elect was seen in viral pictures holding his Certificate of Return with the APC chairman, Abdullahi Abbas.
APC Governor, Umar Ganduje has also accompanying Ali Datti Yako to the National Assembly for his swearing-in.
Another picture showed Yako shaking hands with the state governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, signifying romance with the ruling party.
Although Yako did not officially announce his defection to APC
Other sources however said Yako, who is a close associate of PDP stalwart Hamza Maifata, was only “deceiving the APC leaders” as he plans to remain in the opposition party till the end of his term in office.
Meanwhile, D. Olusegun, a Twitter user who is also a member of the APC, according to his bio, claimed Governor Ganduje went to the House of Reps with “Jibrin’s replacement who is currently a member of the PDP for his swearing in”.
Olusegun shared the alleged picture of Governor Ganduje and the new lawmaker, Yako, at the National Assembly.
Newsflash247 online news portal gathered further report that the House of Reps through its Twitter handle stated that Governor Ganduje and others were at the National Assembly for the swearing-in ceremony.
Newsflash247 online news portal noted that the House of Reps in its tweet referred to Yako as an APC lawmaker from Kano. It is exactly clear whether this is a typographical error.
