NDLEA, Police Clash Over Arrest of Inspector’s Wife With Marijuana and Other Drugs in Kogi

A scuffle broke out between the operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and the officers of the Nigeria Police Force over the arrest of a police inspector’s wife who was allegedly caught with a bag of marijuana and other illicit drugs in Kogi State.

The incident occurred around 11am on Monday inside A Division police station in Lokoja, the state capital, according to SaharaReporters.

The report said that the woman was arrested while distributing the marijuana from her husband’s car, an ash Volkswagen, which was parked inside the station.

However, when the NDLEA operatives tried to take her away with the vehicle, some policemen resisted them and it led to a physical confrontation.

The situation was later calmed by the Assistant Commissioner of Police heading the division, who allowed the NDLEA operatives to take the woman and the car containing the drugs to their office in Lokoja for further investigation.

The woman reportedly confessed to the crime and revealed her customers inside the police station.

This is not the first time that the NDLEA has arrested police officers or their relatives for drug offences in the country.

In January, SaharaReporters reported that suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari, and three others were standing trial for drug offences.

The trial, which is still ongoing, has witnessed some witnesses requesting for protection because of their sensitive identities.
