NDLEA Nabs South African Drug Trafficker at Abuja Airport, Destroys Cannabis Farm in Edo
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a 29-year-old South African national, Erasmus Jean-Pierre, for attempting to export 2.6kg of methamphetamine through the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on Aug. 23.
According to the NDLEA’s director of media and advocacy, Femi Babafemi, the suspect hid the drugs in his luggage while boarding an Ethiopian Airlines flight to the Middle East.
He said that the suspect arrived in Lagos from Abidjan on Saturday, Aug. 19, and travelled to Abuja on Tuesday, Aug. 22, where he collected the brown bag containing the drug consignment on Wednesday, Aug. 23, before heading to the airport.
Mr Babafemi also said that the NDLEA operatives raided Uzebba Forest in Owan West local government area of Edo on Thursday, Aug. 24, and arrested one Esazobor Ohioze (33) for possessing 54.3kg of cannabis sativa. The operatives also destroyed three hectares of cannabis plantation in the forest.
In addition, the NDLEA spokesman said that the agency foiled a plot by a transnational drug cartel to smuggle 117g of Ketamine, cleverly concealed in a pair of leather slippers, to Indonesia. He said that the NDLEA operatives attached to a courier firm in Lagos intercepted the slippers and seized the drugs.
He commended the NDLEA officers for their vigilance and professionalism in detecting and disrupting the drug trafficking activities. He also urged Nigerians to support the agency in its fight against drug abuse and trafficking.
These are just some of the recent successes of the NDLEA in the fight against drug trafficking. The agency is committed to keeping Nigeria drug-free and will continue to work hard to apprehend drug traffickers and bring them to justice.
