NCC to Introduce New Tariff Plan on December 13

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has announced that a new tariff plan for telecom operators will take effect on December 13, 2024.

Dr. Aminu Maida, the Executive Vice Chairman (EVC) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the NCC, made the announcement on Thursday, November 28, 2024, in Abuja. Initially scheduled for October 27, the unveiling was postponed to ensure a smoother rollout.

According to Dr. Maida, the new tariff plan is designed to simplify telecom offerings, providing relief to consumers by addressing confusion surrounding data and airtime usage. As part of the changes, the NCC has capped the number of tariff plans operators can offer at seven.

The Commission also addressed consumer concerns about rapid data depletion, clarifying that the issue is largely influenced by the type of device used rather than telecom operators. To help consumers make informed choices, the NCC has launched awareness campaigns focused on educating the public about device selection and data consumption.

With these initiatives, the NCC aims to create a more transparent, consumer-focused telecommunications market in Nigeria.
