NANS kicks against N100,000 acceptance fee at Ekiti university

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has expressed disappointment in the management of the Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, Ikere-Ekiti (BOUESTI) following the decision to charge prospective students N100,000 as acceptance fee.

Recall that the Governor Kayode Fayemi upgraded the College of Education Ikere-Ekiti to the University of Education, Science and Technology in last year October.

Fayemi later renamed the institution to the Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology (BOU) Ikere-Ekiti after the exit of elder statesman.

The students’ body via a statement by Deputy Coordinator of South-West Zone (NANS ZONE D) Comrade Oladimeji Uthman, noted that the management of BOUESTI has displayed a high level of insensitivity at a period of global economic challenges in the country.

Uthman stressed that it is “callous and unexpected” for the institution to charge N100,000 as an acceptance fee for prospective students.

The deputy coordinator added that “NANS Zone D under the leadership of Comrade Kappo Olawale will not fold its arms and watch this daylight robbery of young aspiring Nigerians seeking education even when the outcome of the education is not a guarantee for employment or better life after graduation.

“In view of this, we hereby request for immediate, sharp, downward review of the acceptance fees and school fees.

“We will ensure we mobilize our colleagues all through the zone to paralyze the activities of the university if the management fails to yield to our plea.”
