MohBad, Nigerian Rapper and Former Marlian Star, Dies at 27
The Nigerian music industry is mourning the loss of one of its rising talents, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, popularly known as MohBad.
The rapper, who was formerly signed to Marlian Records, passed away on Tuesday at the age of 27.
The cause of his death has not been officially confirmed, but some reports suggest that he suffered from a heart attack. His fans and colleagues have taken to social media to express their shock and grief over his sudden demise.
Music executive Ovie, who broke the news on his X page #Ovieo, wrote: “Confirmed. MohBad is dead. Sad, sad day.”
Rapper Olamide, who collaborated with MohBad on several songs, also paid tribute to him on X, saying: “Damn! MohBad.”
MohBad was known for his unique style of rap, which blended street slang, Yoruba language, and witty wordplay. He rose to fame after releasing his hit single “Imole” in 2019, which caught the attention of Naira Marley, the leader of Marlian Records.
He joined the label in December 2019 and released several songs under it, such as “Koma Jensun”, “Ponmo Sweet”, and “Sorry”.
He left Marlian Records in June 2021 and announced that he was working on his debut album, which was expected to be released later this year. He also featured on the soundtrack of the Netflix original series “King of Boys: The Return of the King”, which premiered in August 2021.
MohBad will be remembered as a talented and versatile artiste who had a bright future ahead of him. He is survived by his parents, siblings, and son. May his soul rest in peace.
