Meet 69 SAN Rank in 2023: Afe Babalola’s Daughter, Falana’s Wife, and Others Shortlisted

The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC) has released the names of 69 lawyers who have been recommended for consideration for the conferment of the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) for the year 2023.

The list includes prominent lawyers from various fields of law, such as human rights, corporate law, constitutional law, and academic law.

Among the notable names on the list are Mrs. Folashade Alli, the daughter of Chief Afe Babalola, a renowned legal luminary and founder of Afe Babalola University; Mrs. Funmi Falana, the wife of Mr. Femi Falana, a leading human rights activist and lawyer; and Dr. Kayode Ajulo, a former national secretary of the Labour Party and an expert in labour and employment law.

The LPPC announced the shortlisting of the applicants in a notice issued in Abuja yesterday. The notice stated that the applicants qualified after undergoing various stages of screening, such as advocates 1st and 2nd filtration stages, academic pre-qualification and academic 2nd filtration exercise, independent appeals hearing and chambers inspection.

The LPPC also said that it graded the applicants under two categories: advocates and academic applicants. The advocates category consists of lawyers who have distinguished themselves in the practice of law, while the academic category consists of lawyers who have excelled in the teaching and research of law.

The shortlisted applicants in the two categories are as follows:

The LPPC also invited the general public to comment on the integrity, reputation, and competence of the shortlisted applicants.

The notice said that any complaint must be accompanied by a verifying affidavit sworn to by the author before a court of record in Nigeria.
