Mass exodus hits Ekiti APC as Ex-governor, others set to join PDP

The ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, in Ekiti State may losses  some leaders to another party due to varying issues and the way the state governor, Kayode Fayemi govern the State.

Disgruntled members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the State are gearing up to leave the party for another platform, it can be authoritatively revealed.

The development may leave the party, which causes the state governor controlled the party with one man affair.

Investigations also revealed that the impending exodus is not unconnected with several disaffections, contending interests and the fierce battle for tickets in the 2022 governorship election.

Our correspondent gathered that many members of the APC have concluded plans to move to PDP before the middle of this year.

This, it was learnt, is to position them to win the tickets of the PDP since their chances are becoming dimmer and threatened under the APC, which many of them accuse of still living in the shadows of reputation for alleged impunity.

Checks revealed that most leaders are not comfortable with the overriding influence by the governor and its plots to impose certain candidates on them. At least two or three of them are said to be PDP in the run-off to the 2022 governorship election.

Meanwhile, sources said the former Governor of Ekiti State; Chief Segun Oni has set up to dump the party for the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP).

Source gathered that the National leaders of the PDP put pressure on Segun Oni to leave the APC and other some aggrieved leaders of APC to return to PDP.

Recall that Segun Oni rule Ekiti State under the platform of the PDP for three and half years before he was removed by the Appeal Court.

He joined the APC and also re-contested the Governorship election in 2018 but lost in the primary to Fayemi.

Ekiti has been a dingdong affair of governors who lose their second term bid but stage a come-back to take the seat.

Nwesflash247 gathered the report on Monday, March 16, that Segun Oni declared that he is not going back on his decision to leave the All Progressives Congress (APC), saying his followers and supporters are not well treated in the scheme of things in the party.

He also said he was not accorded his rightful position and respect as a former APC deputy national chairman, alleging that the issue of his suspension from the party was never attended to by the leadership, adding that he was definitely heading back to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Speaking in an exclusive chat with the Tribune Online on the telephone on Monday, he said he was taking the decision in the interest of his political family whom he said were not fairly dealt with in terms of appointments in the party.

He said he would not be pulling out of the party until the second half of the year after he must have had consulted widely with some leaders within the APC, adding, however, that “we have taken the final decision to leave the party.

Prodded to speak further on the planned defection, he said: “It is true that I am leaving the APC for the PDP. I actually planned to address the Press on the issue later this week, but now you have made me touch on some of the issues that informed our decision.

“It is not about me, but about my political family, most of whom have their own lives to live and a political future they must protect. They are not been treated well in the APC in terms of appointments.

“Is that how to run a party? You leave out some people when you are giving out appointments all just because they belong to the Segun Oni political family?

“When I was the APC deputy national chairman, some of them said they suspended me from the party. Up till this moment, the issues surrounding the so-called suspension have not been attended to.

“We have to fight against the tyranny of the minority that is existing in the party. How can some people, who are not even party excos at the ward level gather together to announce the suspension of a party leader?

“When I was the APC deputy national chairman, some people gathered and said they have suspended Clement Ebiri, a former governor, from the party. But I told them to apologise to Ebiri who became a governor when most of them were nobody.

“I can assure you that we are definitely pulling out of the APC. It is not about consulting to take a decision. We have decided on that and it is about the political future of my political group.

“There is no going back on our decision to leave the APC. We are leaving by the second half of the year; we are moving out by Quarter Three. It is about the interest and future of my political family.”
