Man Slashes Pastor with Machete for Lying about His Sister’s Fate
A 26-year-old man, Akpannu, has been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly assaulting a pastor with a machete over a false prophecy. The victim, Prophet Anayochukwu, was stabbed by the suspect at his church in Ijesha, Lagos, in May 2023.
Akpannu claimed that the prophet had told him during a prayer session that his sister was in danger of dying unless he performed some special prayers.
He said he was already frustrated by another pastor who had given him a similar prophecy and asked him to buy coconut and dry gin for spiritual cleansing. He said he followed the instructions but nothing changed in his life.
He said he was enraged by the second prophecy and decided to confront the prophet with a cutlass. He attacked him inside the church premises and fled the scene. The prophet was rushed to a nearby hospital where he received treatment for his injuries.
The police were alerted and they launched a manhunt for the suspect. He was eventually tracked down and arrested at his hideout. He confessed to the crime and accused the pastors of deceiving him with fake prophecies that made him fear for his sister’s life.
He is currently in police custody and will be charged to court soon. The police spokesperson warned the public to be wary of false prophets who exploit people’s gullibility and desperation.
He also advised people to report any suspicious activities or persons to the police for prompt action.
