Lockdown: Police arrest pastor for holding church services in Ekiti

Following the Governor Kayode Fayemi government’s directive to lockdown the Ekiti State for another 14 days (now day 6 ) in order to battle the spread of Covid-19, otherwise known Coronavirus pandemic, pastor of a Christ Apostolic Church Ori Apata, Ado Ekiti and some of his congregation have been arrested by security agents for holding service despite the lockdown order.

The pastor was arrested on Sunday morning, April 19, by Ekiti task force while he was presiding over a church service having over one hundred members.

Source reported that the security agents were alerted by some members of the community who know the consequential effects of his action.

Some members of the church ran away on sighting the task force members.

The man was whisked away in a military van to the Ekiti Parapo Pavilion for questioning.

Reacting some members of the public commended the task force for apprehending the pastor and call for his prosecution.

Meanwhile, Newsflash247 had earlier reported that the state governor, Kayode Fayemi, on Saturday, April 18, had confirmed a fresh positive case of Coronavirus, bringing to three the number of confirmed cases so far identified in the state.

Fayemi disclosed that the third COVID-19 index case in the state, who is a pregnant 29-year-old female Community Health Worker with Lagos State, sneaked into Ekiti in spite of the lockdown and closure of the borders.

The governor made this disclosure on Saturday in Ado-Ekiti, while updating the state on the spread and challenge of COVID-19 and how far his government has gone in stemming the spread of the dreaded pandemic.

Fayemi who lamented the alleged infidelity of security agencies at the borders, which he said was responsible for why the woman gained access to Ekiti during a lockdown.

He directed the security agencies to emplace watertight security at Ekiti entry point to restrict influx of people to the state.
