Lockdown: Couple weds in living room over Coronavirus Pandemic [PHOTOS]

Following President Muhammadu Buhari’s directive to lockdown the country in order to battle the spread of Covid-19, otherwise known as Coronavirus, a couple in Taraba State named John Lawrence Ogwuche and Faith Nathaniel Odang tied the knot on Saturday in the comfort of their living room with a small crowd of well-wishers amid the lockdown in the state to combat spread of COVID-19.

According to the Ogwuche, the bridegroom said the decision to go ahead with the wedding was taken by the couple, the Cable reports.

According to him, wedding should not be seen as an avenue for raising funds or pulling crowds but an occasion to celebrate true bond between two people.

He noted that such mindset made them less bothered about the low turnout of guest at their wedding.

“It takes a person that knows what they want to go ahead with such an occasion. Wedding is not about how much you raise or the number of people you pull. Wedding is an individual thing, how you want it. What happened yesterday was an agreement between the two of us,” Ogwuche said.

“Yes, coronavirus is on its own and wedding is on its own. So, we decided to go ahead with our wedding not minding the coronavirus in the country. In the part of the country we had our wedding; we have not confirmed any case.

“It was because of precaution that the state was locked down and this is an occasion we have been planning for, a date has been fixed. So, I see no point postponing it because people are not going to attend among other issues. We don’t care; we had our wedding and our reception.”

The bridegroom also noted that the wedding took place because it was a divine arrangement.

“There are certain people that things in their lives don’t happen without a reason and I believed my wedding wouldn’t have been this popular if it hadn’t happened yesterday,” he added.

“It was a divine arrangement for it to happen and to pull so much attention across the country. That’s what made you (referring to this reporter) to call me. If not for the wedding, you wouldn’t have known somebody like me.”

Ogwuche went on to charge other intending couples across the country to adopt similar method, adding that such would prevent undue postponements of their wedding.

“My wedding should pass a message to those who had fixed their wedding,” he said.

Meanwhile, Nigeria has recorded 232 confirmed cases of the killer virus, five deaths — as of the time of filling this report.

According to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), on Sunday night, April 5, has announced the confirmation of another 8 new cases of COVID-19, otherwise known as Coronavirus in the country.

NCDC made the announcement Sunday night on its official twitter account.

With the new 8 cases, Nigeria now has 232 confirmed cases and 5 deaths of the coronavirus disease.

A tweet on the NCDC’s official Twitter handle, said five of the new cases were recorded in Lagos State, one in Kaduna and two in the FCT, the country capital.

“Eight new cases of #COVID19 have been reported in Nigeria: 5 in Lagos, 2 in the FCT and 1 in Kaduna State

“As at 09:30 pm 5th April there are 232 confirmed cases of #COVID19 reported in Nigeria. Thirty-three have been discharged with five deaths”.
