Lawyers Protest Against Police Brutality In Imo
Increasingly, people at all levels of the society have been asking important questions about police use of force cum brutality. Agreeably, in recent times, new stories are being recorded about police improper use of force and brutality being melted out on innocent citizens.
Lawyers are not left out. The issue of police brutal acts against lawyers(who are discharging their lawful duties towards their clients) has in recent times taken a dramatic turn for the worse.
The most recent of them all is the ugly story of the atrocious conduct of the men of the Nigerian Police force at the Umuneke Ngor Okpalla Magistrate Court, where the Magistrate was assaulted and abused, and two defence lawyers arrested in court and detained subsequently.
It is against this background that members of the Nigerian Bar Association Owerri branch in conjunction with Orlu, Okigwe and Mbaise branches conveyed a peaceful protest against these barbaric acts of the police. The NBA Owerri Branch condemns in its entirety the conduct of the men of the Nigerian Police force as illegal and unconstitutional.
