Lagos socialite Farida reveals why she tried to end her life by jumping into lagoon

A Lagos socialite, Farida Abdulkadir Sobowale, owner of House of Phreedah Bodycare and Spa, has opened up about the reasons that led her to attempt suicide on Thursday night.

Farida, who was rescued by some good Samaritans from jumping into the lagoon from a bridge, said that she was overwhelmed by frustration, failed marriage and other challenges.

Newsflash Nigeria had earlier reported that Farida drove her Lexus SUV to the extension, descended and was about to hop into the lagoon when she was stopped by some people who saw her. A viral video showed Farida, who wore black attire, sobbing as she was held by some individuals who prevented her from taking her own life.

However, in another video that surfaced on social media, Farida narrated her ordeal and explained what pushed her to the brink of suicide.

Farida, who got married to a Lagos socialite, Demola Okulaja, in a lavish wedding reportedly worth N100 million about two months ago, revealed that her marriage had just crashed.

Farida said that she was devastated by the collapse of her marriage and that she felt like she had lost everything. She said that she was also struggling with financial problems and that she was feeling overwhelmed by stress.

“I was at my wit’s end,” she said. “I felt like I had no one to turn to and that I was all alone in the world. I just wanted the pain to stop.”

Farida said that she ignored the warnings of her friends and family who told her that Okulaja only wanted her money and not her love. She said that after Okulaja walked out of the marriage, she became depressed and felt like ending it all.

“I am so sorry for putting my children in such a position. I would not have forgiven myself if I had abandoned them after committing suicide,” she added.

Farida also thanked those who saved her from killing herself and appealed to Nigerians to pray for her. She said that she was going through a lot of pain and needed support to overcome her challenges.

Farida is the owner of House of Phreedah Bodycare and Spa, a beauty and wellness company that offers various services such as skincare products, spa treatments, makeup, hair styling and bridal packages. She is also a philanthropist who has donated to several causes such as orphanages, widows and cancer patients.
