Lagos Airport to Shut Down as FG Orders Airlines to Relocate
The Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos State will be closed for maintenance from October 1, 2023, according to the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo.
The minister announced this on Thursday during his tour of the airport facilities, where he expressed dissatisfaction with the poor state of the environment.
Keyamo said that all international airlines operating at the MMIA would have to move to the new terminal, MMIA terminal two, which was constructed by a Chinese company.
He said that this decision was necessary to allow for a complete overhaul of the old terminal, which had become dilapidated and congested.
The minister also suspended all contracts, projects, and concessions in the aviation sector until further notice.
He ordered the immediate demolition of Dominion and EAN hangars, which were occupying space meant for the expansion of the airport.
Keyamo said that his ministry was committed to improving the standards and safety of the aviation industry in Nigeria. He urged all stakeholders to cooperate with the government in achieving this goal.
