Kogi Governor-Elect Kneels Before Bello, Sparks Outrage on Social Media
The Kogi State Governor-elect, Usman Ododo, has stirred up controversy on social media after he kneeled and presented his Certificate of Return to Governor Yahaya Bello.
Newsflash Nigeria reports that Ododo performed this act of deference after he received his certificate of return along with his running mate, Joel Salifu, at the INEC headquarters in Lokoja, the state capital, on Friday.
The State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Gabriel Longpet, presented the certificate to them in the presence of Governor Bello, some APC chieftains and a large crowd of party supporters.
However, some Nigerians have expressed their displeasure with the decision of Ododo, saying that it shows the extent of godfatherism in the country and its negative impact on the nation’s politics.
They took to social media platforms to air their views and criticise the governor-elect for his gesture.

Such acts, rather than fostering respect, risk undermining confidence in our democratic values. These symbolic gestures should align with democratic principles to inspire trust among international investors. A commitment to modern democratic norms is crucial for national progress and global partnerships.”
