Senator Dino Melaye, the Peoples Democratic Party senatorial candidate on Tuesday, November 19, has promised to report Kogi Governor elect, Yahaya Bello and other politicians in Kogi state to the International Criminal Court (ICC) over the alleged violence that occurred during the senatorial and governorship election in the state.
Melaye, who is currently battling to get re-elected in the National Assembly, is trailing his opponent, Smart Adeyemi in the Kogi west senatorial district rerun poll.
But the lawmaker, in a post on Twitter on Tuesday, November 19, said what occurred in Kogi state was more of a civil war than an election.
Melaye alleged that 16 people have so far been killed in the Kogi election violence.
The senator, when citing an instance of irregularity in Okene local government, said the total number of votes INEC allocated to the APC exceeded the number of Voters Registration Cards (PVC) collected.
“What we had in Kogi is no election, what we had was a civil war that has claimed 16 lives so far.
I will report Bello, Smart Adeyemi, Taofik, Speaker Kolawole, and Sunday Faleke to the international community and then proceed to Hague. This I promise, “he tweeted.
Meanwhile, Dino Melaye has released videos to show that the election conducted by the Independent National Electoral (INEC) to fill the vacant Kogi West senatorial seat on Saturday, November 16, was rigged.
One of the videos released by Melaye on his Twitter page shows men with guns invading a voting centre and destroying ballot boxes.
In another video, someone could be heard lamenting that a helicopter was used to disperse voters while some hired men came to ransack the centre with guns.
Newsflash247 had earlier reported that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Kogi West Senatorial candidate, Dino Melaye has rejected rerun senatorial results, described Saturday’s election as an ‘helicopter election.’
The lawmaker who spoke to Channels TV, said the result released by INEC is ‘fictitious.
Rejecting the results of the election, Melaye added that the election was marred by massive violence and rigging.
He said, “The innovation is that what we had is what I have christened ‘Helicopter election’. For the first time, rigging has been advanced to the level that now the use of a helicopter in perpetuating this electoral atrocity manifested yesterday.
“Helicopter hovering around Polling units in Lokoja, dropping bullets on innocent, harmless citizens and electorate; and as I speak, yesterday, teargas being fired from this helicopter.
“Despite the fact that this helicopter was used in harassing, intimidating and firing innocent electorates, the votes of those places were carted away and taken to the government house, stuffed and brought back to the collation centre and they have been accepted and admitted and collation is ongoing.
“They brought mayhem on my own community and even killed my nephew, we are waiting to see what INEC will do, but I reject in totality, this fictitious result and I want to say that all these are not about the election, it is about Dino Melaye.”
