Kogi election: APC reacts on Akeredolu funding Yahaya Bello’s election
The Ondo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC has denied the claims by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, that Ondo State Governor,Rotimi Akeredolu was funding the election his counterpart, Yahaya Bello of Kogi State.
The PDP had alleged that the APC in Ondo was planning to fund the re-election bid of Governor Bello.
The ruling party described the allegation as a mischievous claim in a statement by its spokesman, Alex Kalejaiye.
The statement said, “For the records, the state chapter plans to set up a committee that has a clear assignment: To boost the morale of our party members in Kogi State.
”It is ridiculous for any individual or a political party, especially one that has national colouration, to allege that Ondo State chapter would build a war chest for an election holding in Kogi State, or anywhere else for that matter.
“Without dispute, the APC-led government in the State harbours no space for financial recklessness. This has drawn applause from objective and sincere observers and resulted in maximising benefits of levies and taxes for the welfare of the people.
”A government that dwells in the realm of frivolity would not contemplate the on-going transformation and industrialization in Ore.
“Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has repeatedly bragged about what he would do to support the PDP in Ondo. We perceive same as normal political arrogance.”
Meanwhile, Newsflash247 had earlier reported that the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Friday accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of planning to use the state’s resources to support the re-election of Kogi governor, Yahaya Bello.
Earlier on Tuesday, Chairman of the APC in Ondo, Ade Adetimehin, had said that they would join hands with their counterparts in Kogi to ensure victory for Governor Bello in the oncoming governorship election.
But reacting to this on Friday, the PDP in Ondo said that it was a move aimed at misappropriating the state’s resources.
Spokesperson for the PDP in the state, Zadok Akintoye, in a statement said that they were aware of how Governor Bello in 2016 funded the election of Ondo State governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, but that any plot to pay back that favour with the resources of the Ondo people would not be accepted.
He said, “In a state that has not been able to build on the legacies of past leaders and where cost of project execution has been shrouded in secrecy, it is unacceptable for our government to seek to finance an election in Kogi State with resources obtained from the people of Ondo.”
