Kebbi Governor Splashes N675 Million on Furniture Allowance for LG Chairmen
The Governor of Kebbi State, Nasir Ahmed Idris, has approved the sum of N675 million as furniture allowance for the chairmen of the 21 local government areas (LGAs) in the state. The approval covers the period from 2022 to 2024.
The Chief Press Secretary to Governor Ahmed Idris, who announced this in a statement on Thursday in Birnin Kebbi, the state capital, said that the governor made the approval in line with his commitment to making people’s lives meaningful and executing projects that have a direct bearing on the lives of the public .
The statement also quoted the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mohammed Sani-Umar, as commending the governor for the gesture. He said that the furniture allowance would enhance the comfort and productivity of the LG chairpersons and their staff.
The Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in Kebbi State, Aminu Ahmed, who is also the Chairman of Birnin Kebbi LGA, expressed his appreciation to the governor on behalf of his colleagues. He assured that the money would be used to provide furniture for the LG council, councillors and secretaries.
He described the approval as a sign of good leadership and prayed for God’s guidance and wisdom for the governor to excellently pilot the affairs of the state.
The approval of the furniture allowance is a welcome development for local government officials in Kebbi State. It is a sign that the governor is committed to improving their welfare and working conditions. The money will be used to purchase furniture for the offices of local government chairpersons, councilors, and secretaries. Kebbi State is one of the 36 states of Nigeria and its capital is Birnin Kebbi. It was created on 27 August 1991 from part of Sokoto State. It is bordered by Niger Republic to the north, Zamfara State to the east, Sokoto State to the south-east, and Benin Republic to the west. It has a population of about 4.1 million people and is mainly inhabited by Hausa and Fulani ethnic groups.
