Kaduna State Cuts Tertiary School Fees by 50%, 30% After Subsidy Removal
The Kaduna State Government has announced a significant reduction in the school fees for indigenes in higher institutions in the state. The decision was made to address the challenges of low enrolment and retention of students in the state-owned tertiary institutions.
According to Governor Uba Sani, who briefed the press on Monday on the “Review of current fees regime in Kaduna State tertiary institutions”, the existing fees were too high and had discouraged many students from pursuing or continuing their tertiary education. He said that some students had opted for alternative institutions that offered lower fees.
The governor said that his administration was committed to providing free and quality education for every child in Kaduna State from primary to secondary school, as well as expanding access to higher education. He said that the new fees model was competitive and affordable, and would also enhance the welfare of the students and teachers.
The governor revealed the new fees structure for the state-owned tertiary institutions as follows:

The governor said that the downward review of the fees was also a palliative measure to cushion the effect of the rising cost of living in the country, especially after the removal of petroleum subsidy. He urged the students to take advantage of the opportunity and pursue their academic dreams with diligence and dedication.
