JAPA: Man Arrested for Stealing Company Car to fund relocation

Dreams of sandy beaches and palm trees turned into iron bars for an unlucky Lagos employee. He attempted to trade his company’s Toyota Hilux for a one-way ticket to Ghana with his family, but ended up starring in a real-life crime drama, courtesy of the Nigerian Police.

The State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) received a tip-off on January 16th about a suspicious Toyota Hilux on the move. Detectives, hot on the trail, tracked the vehicle down to Ilukogun village, straddling the Lagos-Ogun border. Inside, they found Arthur Benjamin, the mastermind behind the grand (and ultimately disastrous) plan.

Confession time came quickly. Benjamin admitted to snatching the Hilux from his workplace, all to fund his family’s new life in Ghana. His dreams of sipping cocktails on golden shores got an unexpected upgrade: a stay in a cozy, government-sponsored resort.

The authorities are still on the hunt for any potential accomplices in this ill-fated escapade. But for Benjamin, the lesson is clear: shortcuts to paradise often lead to the slammer.
