IPMAN to Launch CNG as Affordable and Eco-friendly Fuel at N100 Per Litre
The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has assured motorists and transport operators in Nigeria that they would soon enjoy cheaper and cleaner fuel with the introduction of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) as an alternative to petrol.
The National President of IPMAN, Chinedu Okoronkwo, gave the assurance on Wednesday while speaking in an interview with Channels TV.
He said that IPMAN was 90% prepared to roll out CNG by the end of June, which would cost between N100 and N110 per litre, compared to the current petrol price of over N500 per litre, following the removal of fuel subsidy by the federal government.
He explained that CNG would help reduce Nigeria’s energy consumption cost and dependence on imported petrol, as well as contribute to the global efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
“Very soon, we will roll out. We are 90 per cent close to that, which will also unveil many possibilities,” he said.
He added that IPMAN had brought relief to many families by using CNG to power vehicles, generators and even cooking stoves.
“CNG does not replace petrol, but it is a choice. We are talking of something that will help your purse and not deepen it,” he said.
He revealed that IPMAN had partnered with various local and foreign companies to provide CNG infrastructure and services across the country.
He said that IPMAN had also received support from the federal government and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) to promote CNG adoption.
He said that IPMAN was ready to create a market for CNG, as the demand was already there.
He said that CNG would be a game changer for Nigerians as it would be the best palliative instead of sharing money.
