Interior Minister Urges NSCDC, NIS, FFS to Upgrade Academically, Launches Paramilitary Brain Trust
The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has advised the officers and men of the paramilitary agencies under his ministry to upgrade their academic qualifications and skills, as promotion will no longer be based on passing examinations alone.
Tunji-Ojo said that the personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), the Correctional Service, and the Federal Fire Service (FFS) must attend mandatory continuous professional development programmes in line with the career progression policy document of the federal government.
The minister made this known at the presentation of 12 books co-authored by the Commandant-General of the NSCDC, Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi and Prof. Tyoor Terhemba in Abuja yesterday.
Tunji-Ojo also announced the establishment of a team called Paramilitary Brain Trust (PBT), which will consist of public officers and professionals who will provide technical advice to the government through research and other academic endeavours.
Tunji-Ojo commended the academic prowess of Audi, who he said has invested in education and has introduced very impressive innovations at the NSCDC to tackle insecurity, vandalism, and other challenges. He urged his subordinates to emulate him and pursue excellence in their fields.
He also cited the examples of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the MI6, and the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) as agencies that have some of the best alumni of some of the best institutions in the world. He said that such academic excellence enhances their performance and service delivery.
He promised to personally ensure that all agencies under his ministry have a functional library for research and learning.
On his part, Audi said that five of the books were completely written by him while the other seven were co-authored by associates.
Audi explained that his passion for excellence, maximum service delivery, and his quest to impart knowledge on the nation’s security structure motivated him to write the books, which he started five years ago.
