Imo Judgement Update: Supreme Court adjourns ruling governorship review
The Supreme Court on Tuesday, February 18, has adjourned ruling on the application filed by ousted Imo State Governor Emeka Ihedioha, seeking to overturn an earlier decision of the apex court which removed him from office.
Recall that the apex court declared Hope Uzodinma of APC who came fourth as the winner of the March 9 governorship election in the state.
In the unanimous judgment of the seven-member panel, read by Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, the apex court agreed that results in 388 polling units were unlawfully excluded during the collation of the final governorship election result in Imo State.
Justice Kekere-Ekun said with the results from the 388 polling units added, Mr Uzodinma polled a majority of the lawful votes and ought to have been declared the winner of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
A panel of seven justices led by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Tanko Mohammad, fixed March 2, 2020 for ruling on the matter
This is to enable other processes required for the hearing of the case to be filed
