I’ll fight corruption like Buhari if elected president – Tinubu
The Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, has vowed to continue fighting corruption like President Muhammadu Buhari did if elected president.
Tinubu, a former governor of Lagos State made this know while unveiling his campaign policy document in Abuja.
Mr Tinubu pledged to continue Buhari’s civil service reforms to reduce corruption.
The APC presidential candidate said his administration would ensure the reduction of waste in the civil services if he succeeds Buhari in 2023.
“We will continue the work of the current administration in reforming the civil service to fight corruption, reduce bureaucracy, streamline agencies and decrease inefficiency and waste,” the document reads in part.
Tinubu has been criticized for being corrupt and accumulating untraceable wealth.
Many times, the former Lagos governor had refused to respond to queries on the ownership of Alpha Beta, a private company that collects tax on behalf of the state for a percentage.
He is believed to have large shares in the company, which assumed Lagos tax administration under him as governor of Lagos State.
Earlier, Tinubu had released an 80-page policy document that highlights an eight-point agenda.
Top on his priority lists of action plans was national security, economy, agriculture, power, oil and gas, transportation and education.
The 80-page document, containing multi-sectoral policy options, was tagged “Renewed Hope 2023 – Action Plan for a Better Nigeria.”
Here are 10 promises of the former Lagos State governor contained in the manifesto.
- Build a Nigeria, especially for our youth, where sufficient jobs with decent wages create a better life.
- Manufacture, create, and invent more of the goods and services we require. Nigeria shall be known as a nation of creators, not just consumers.
- Export more and import less, strengthening both the naira and our way of life.
- Continue assisting our ever-toiling farmers, through enlightened agricultural policy that promotes productivity and assures decent incomes, so that farmers can support their families and feed the nation.
- Modernise and expand public infrastructure so that the rest of the economy can grow at an optimal rate.
- Embolden and support our young people and women by harnessing emerging sectors such as the digital economy, entertainment and culture, tourism and others to build the Nigeria of tomorrow, today.
- Train and give economic opportunity to the poorest and most vulnerable among us. We seek a Nigeria where no parent is compelled to send a child to bed hungry, worried whether tomorrow shall bring food.
- Generate, transmit and distribute sufficient, affordable electricity to give our people the requisite power to enlighten their lives, their homes, and their very dreams.
- Make basic healthcare, education, and housing accessible and affordable for all.
10. And, most importantly, establish a bold and assertive policy that will create a strong yet adaptive national security architecture and action to obliterate terror, kidnapping, banditry, and all other forms of violent extremism from the face of our nation.
