IGP Baba orders probe of Portable for creating cult groups

This directive is premised on the continuous effort of the Nigeria Police Force to fish out pillars and sponsors of cult groups in order to decimate their activities and restore sanity to our society.”

The inspector-general of police (IGP), Usman Alkali Baba, has ordered a probe of the controversial singer, Habib Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, for boasting that he founded two notorious cult groups in Lagos.

Muyiwa Adejobi, the police spokesman, broke the news in a short statement on Monday evening.

Newsflash Nigeria had reported that Portable had openly bragged that he established two terror gangs, ‘One Million Boys’ and ‘Ajah Boys’ in Lagos State.

‘One Million Boys’ also terrorises Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

Speaking in Yoruba, the Zazu crooner in a viral video boasted that he was not scared of anyone.

In the video seen by Newsflash Nigeria, Portable said, “Open your ears and be listening.

“Have you heard of Ajah Boys, One Million Boys? I established them. Go and ask Sammy Larry.”

According to him, socialites Samlarry Eletu and Abu Abel knew him back in the day.

Ajah Boys and One Million Boys are gangs known for engaging in violent activities and terrorising residents of Lagos with dangerous weapons.

Amid the criticism sparked by Portable’s remark, the police described the singer’s statement as indicting.

As a result, the Inspector General of Police, Baba Usman, has directed authorities of the Lagos State Police Command to investigate the claim and ensure necessary legal action was taken.

The Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the police chief’s directive in a statement on Monday in Abuja.

Adejobi, a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP), explained that the move was in line with the police drive to identify sponsors of cult groups and curb the activities of the criminals in the country.

“Cultism: Police to Investigate Portable over the formation of One Million Boys Sequel to the trending video of one Habeeb Okikiola aka Portable where he claimed to have formed the One-Million Boys cult group terrorising some parts of Lagos State, the IGP has ordered CP Lagos to investigate the indicting statement and take necessary legal action,” the statement reads.

“This directive is premised on the continuous effort of the Nigeria Police Force to fish out pillars and sponsors of cult groups in order to decimate their activities and restore sanity to our society.”

The ‘One Million Boys’ cult group was infamous for terrorising residents in some parts of Lagos state years back.

It remains to be seen if he indeed founded the group as claimed. His claim has also continued to elicit intense reactions on social media.

Portable came to the limelight last December following the release of his hit song, ‘Zazu Zeh’, in which he featured top artiste and record label boss, Olamide.

Just last month, the singer was declared wanted by the police authorities in neighbouring Ogun over a trending video clip that showed Portable directing some youths to beat up a young man and inflict bodily injury on him.

The incident which occurred around mid-June was said to have taken place somewhere in the Ilogbo area of Ogun State.

The ‘Zazoo Zeh’ crooner has been in the public eye in the past few days over his apparent duplicity of interests during the recently held election in Osun state.

Portable had earlier endorsed the re-election bid of Gboyega Oyetola, the governor, and led various campaigns for him in Osogbo, the state capital.

He was also said to have collected money from Oyetola.

But the governor lost to Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the polls.

Shortly after the results of the election were announced, Portable was seen celebrating Adeleke’s victory.

He was also seen dancing wildly while taunting the APC, Oyetola and Bola Tinubu, its presidential candidate.
