How PDP, LP Concluded Their Case Against Tinubu at Election Tribunal

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar as well as Peter Obi, candidate of the Labour Party (LP), have closed their respective cases before the presidential election petition court.

The petitioners are challenging the outcome of the February 23 presidential election that was won by Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Here are the major highlights of Friday’s proceedings.

The PDP and Atiku closed their case on Friday after calling 27 witnesses and tendering several documents in evidence.

They had earlier said they would call about 100 witnesses to support their petition, but they ended their case after the 27th witness was called.

The last witness tendered several documents that bore the name “Bola Adekunle Tinubu”, which he claimed were the original certificates of the president.

The LP and Obi also closed their case on Friday after calling 13 witnesses and tendering several documents in evidence.

They had earlier said they would call 50 witnesses to support their case, but they ended their case after the 13th witness was called.

The last witness asked the court to cancel the election, saying that votes were allocated to all the presidential candidates by INEC.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which is the first respondent in the petition, said it would open its case on July 3. The electoral body said it would call two witnesses and present its defence within three days.

INEC denied that it had any challenges with allowing the petitioners to carry out forensic examination of the BVAS.

The APC and Tinubu, who are the second and third respondents respectively, also said they would open their cases on July 3.

The APC said it would call seven witnesses and present its defence within nine days. Tinubu said he would call 21 witnesses and present his defence within nine days as well.

The presidential election petition court has adjourned till July 3 for further hearing.
