Hoodlums attack journalists covering Tinubu in Lagos

A bus conveying a press crew covering Lagos State Government and attached to the convoy of Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, was attacked on Sunday.

It was gathered that the incident occurred at the Adeniji end of Isale Eko after the former Lagos State Governor visited the Oba of Lagos on his return to his home state after emerging as a presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections.

The hoodlums threw stones and other dangerous weapons at the bus as Tinubu’s convoy drove from the palace.

According to a video sighted by Newsflash Nigeria, some of the hoodlums were wielding swords and cutlasses smashing side glasses and front windshields of the vehicle.

However, Western Post correspondents, Adeola Ogunrinde and Omatseye Atsenuwa of Smooth 98’1Fm got wounded, while Adedoja Salam of TVC went into shock due to the heavy bombardment of stones and bricks thrown at the press crew bus, leaving the windscreen and nearly all the side screens were broken.

Ogunrinde got wounded in the face, while Atsenuwa had his arm hit directly by one of the heavy stones thrown at the press crew bus.

Newsflash Nigeria had reported that Tinubu’s homecoming is coming exactly 12 days after he won the party’s ticket, flooring the likes of Vice President Yemi Osibanjo and former Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi; Senate President, Ahmed Lawan; Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, amongst others.

Tinubu had in the days following his emergence visited all the contenders for the exalted seat in a bid to solicit their support and build the APC’s unity.

Tinubu had earlier on Sunday when he landed in Lagos said it felt good to be back home. The former Lagos governor was welcomed by an excited crowd from the airport and he was seen waving at ecstatic supporters who hailed him.

The supporters who were waving brooms, which is an APC symbol, were chanting “Emilokan” as they followed his entourage.

Newsflash Nigeria reports that during the APC special convention and presidential primary, Tinubu scored 1,271 votes to defeat his closest contenders, Rotimi Amaechi and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, two weeks ago.

Amaechi obtained 316 votes while Osinbajo polled 235.

He contested against 13 other aspirants – Mr Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, Pastor Tunde Bakare, Mr Ahmed Rufai, Senator Rochas Okorocha, Mr Jack Rich, Governor Ben Ayade, Governor David Umahi, Senator Ahmed Yarima, Dr Ahmed Lawan, Osinbajo, Amaechi, Governor Yahaya Bello and Mr Ogbonnaya Onu.
