Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose on Tuesday visited Ipao-Ekiti, Ikole local government Area to condole with the family of a farmer, Tunde Olayemi, who was killed on Sunday by suspected herdsmen.
Fayose, at a meeting with the leaders of the community, however, appealed to the people of Ipao to ensure that there were no reprisal killings.
“I appeal to you to ensure you live peacefully with the Fulani herdsmen in your community. We want a peaceful situation that would not allow any reprisal.
“We will investigate and get to the root cause of this sad development, particularly why this community has become a flashpoint so that we can find a lasting solution to it,” Fayose said.
The governor also promised to set up a five-man committee that would investigate the cause of the killings in the town.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the governor promised to compensate the affected victim’s family as well as the herdsmen whose cows were killed.
