Ekiti 2022: Segun Oni speaks on campaigns of calumny and blackmails of Fayose, Olujimi

Ahead of the January 28 governorship primary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State, the former governor of the state, Chief Segun Oni has dissociated from the emerging campaigns of calumny and blackmails of some leaders in the party.

In a statement released on Sunday by Hon. Yemi Arokodare, the Director-General of Segun Oni, said the Management Team dissatisfaction several write-ups and publications to diminish the reconciliation efforts of the National leadership of the party.

The Management Team has consistently restrained itself from responding to campaigns of calumny, Yemi Arokodare said.

A few days ago, some followers alleged to be Segun oni have attacked the former governor Ayo Fayose and the senator representing Ekiti South District, Biodun Olujimi over the scenario playing against Segun Oni forthcoming party primaries.

In several write-ups and publications against the two leaders in the party by alleged to be Segun Oni supporters and was virally shared on social media.

One of the publications titled “The Grand Conspiracy Against Ekiti Voters and PDP” quoted the scenario played by two leaders; Fayose and Olujimi to against Oni for the preparation of the party primaries.

“The major gladiators in the conspiracy scheme are Fayose and Olujimi while the target is Segun Oni and the eventual victim will be the PDP as a Party. 

“It is now becoming clear that Fayose because of his well-known hatred for Segun Oni has now recruited Olujimi as a co-traveller in the conspiracy to stop Segun Oni’s 2022 governorship ambition.

“Olujimi on the other hand because of her inordinate ambition and seeing the collapse of her dead on arrival at South Agenda, has now embraced Fayose in order to become the Governor. She has now conveniently forgotten how Fayose campaigned against her before the last senatorial election before she was rescued by the powers that be through the corrupt judiciary. 

“To facilitate the “finish Oni conspiracy,” Fayose is again seeking the financial and security support of APC Governor Fayemi in the grand conspiracy against his party and Segun Oni.

“Fayemi and Fayose have always been having unholy anti-party political alliances in the past when a PDP Fayose was campaigning against PDP Segun Oni in a re-run election against APC Fayemi.

“Today the three musketeers – Fayemi, Fayose and Olujimi – are in league against Oni for different reasons. 

“While Olujimi join the conspiracy against a man who had benefited her immensely when he was Governor and offended his age-long friend when Olujimi was deployed to the ministry of works. The main grouse of Olujimi now is that Segun Oni did not join her in the battle against Fayose’s executive in the state. Segun Oni had the gut to tell the National leadership at their recent meeting with Ekiti stakeholders that he can work with the existing ward, local government and state executives as were put together by Fayose. 

“As one of the closest allies of Olujimi revealed recently, Olujimi can never forgive Segun Oni for the open declaration of support for the current executives put together by Fayose.

“As for Fayoses hatred for Oni, it is well known that Fayose is a political dealer whose only attraction is money which Segun Oni does not have to quench his roguery and insatiable thirsts for money. He knows that Fayemi for reasons best known to him does not like Oni and he is not ready to have Oni as his successor fearing that he may open the pandora’s box of the known miscues in the state in the past three and half years. 

“Over and above all, is the overwhelming love for Segun Oni by the generality of the Ekiti voters as at today and all of them are envious of this reality. 

“To the ordinary members of the PDP, it is the conspiracy of envy borne out of Onis popularity in the state. We pray that God will give the Ayu led National Executive the wisdom to expose the conspiracy and do what is right in Ekiti by conducting a free and fair primary with what is on the ground. 

“Given the present disposition of most of Ekiti voters across parties and all demographics, any attempt to foist an Olujimi as Governor and Fayose nominee as Deputy on Ekiti people will end up as an electoral disaster for the PDP with multiplier effects on Osun and other southwest and national elections. The losers will be the Party, Ekiti people and members in general. A word is enough for the wise”.

But the Segun Oni’s Senior Management Team dissociates Campaign Structures from the emerging campaigns of calumny and blackmails.

The DG of the Segun Oni campaign, Hon. Yemi Arokodare said the publications is to diminish the reconciliation efforts of the National Leadership of the party and cast aspersions on the persons of Chief Segun Oni.

He said, “In the last few days, we have observed with dissatisfaction several write-ups and publications to diminish the reconciliation efforts of the National Leadership of our party and cast aspersions on the persons of our principal, His Excellency, Chief Segun Oni, and other players in the peace process: Distinguished Sen. Abiodun Olujimi and His Excellency, Ayodele Fayose.

“While we are not unaware that blackmail is sadly a common tool in local politics and familiar to the DNA of many politicians, but it cannot fly with leaders who have the strength of character like Chief Segun Oni. And in line with his principles, the Senior Management Team of his campaign has consistently restrained itself from responding to campaigns of calumny”.

For the record, Chief Oni has authored a communication revealing that all outstanding personal issues with Dr Fayose have been settled, while equally commending Sen. Olujimi for her commitment to the party and the nation:

“At the meeting in Abuja, I apologised to Gov Fayose for any personal ill-feeling that he must have experienced based my relationship towards him and he stood up to embrace me. The interpersonal issues are over. We have put that behind us.

“My respect for Senator Olujimi is intact, and I enjoy a cordial relationship with her. She has done well for our state and the country at large.

“ I urge members of my team and supporters to campaign reasonably. Whoever wins all of us will support. We will also ensure that all the various people participate in government. We must stop abuses and play mature politics. “

Our principal’s track records speak, and he will never indulge his team or people around him to engage in diatribe or attack the personality of any leader, irrespective of the prevailing situation. He has always shown respect to Gov Fayose, Sen. Olujimi, other party leaders and members in general.

We, therefore, dissociate our team and campaign structures from the political missiles flying around. As a responsible organisation, we know the proper internal communication channel to exploit in the party if we have any reason to complain.

However, as a campaign body, we will like to urge everyone including the fifth columnists, to desist from activities and statements that are capable of affecting the reconciliation process and which could make things difficult for others.

Our mantra is fellowship building, and we need every party member to build one strong PDP under one umbrella. This is the commitment of Chief Segun Oni. He will always strive to leave no party member behind.

We will need each other to win in the coming governorship election and 2023. We are one big family.
