Gunmen Kill RCCG Pastor, Abduct Seven Worshippers in Ogun
A pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Desires of Nations Parish, in Abule-Ori, Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State, has been killed by suspected gunmen who invaded the church on Saturday.
The assailants also kidnapped seven worshippers who were attending a vigil at the church.
However, operatives of the Ogun State So-Safe Corps rescued the seven worshippers and killed one of the abductors during a subsequent encounter.
The commander of the Ogun State So-Safe Corps, Soji Ganzallo, confirmed the incident on Sunday. He said the special operation team of the corps, Owode-Egba Zonal Command, received a distress call that some of the members of the RCCG were attacked during a vigil.
Ganzallo said the officers of the corps were told to go after the suspects to rescue the victims unhurt. He said the officers swung into action immediately and rescued the seven worshippers unhurt.
He further disclosed that one of the kidnappers was killed and many of the suspects sustained serious injury during a fire exchange.
He added that the joint team of the police and So-Safe Corps have launched a manhunt for the fleeing suspects and vowed to bring them to justice.
He commiserated with the family of the slain pastor and urged the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious movement or activity to the security agencies.
This attack is a reminder of the growing insecurity in Nigeria. It is important for people to be vigilant and to take precautions to protect themselves and their loved ones.
