Gunmen kill APC chairman in Osun
The chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Atakunmosa east LGA of Osun state, Gbenga Ogbara, has been shot dead by unknown gunmen.
The Osun police command confirmed the development on Monday.
Yemisi Opalola, the spokesperson of the Osun police command, told NAN that Ogbara was killed around midnight in his sitting room by suspected gunmen.
The Osun police spokesperson added that the body of the chairman had been deposited at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital (OAUTH) in Ilesa.
She said the police are currently investigating the incident, adding that efforts are on to get the perpetrators.
“Policemen have since been deployed to the area. The criminals will not escape justice,” she said.
Circumstances surrounding the killing are not yet clear.
In a condolence message on Monday, Lawrence Ayeni, a lawmaker representing Ijesa south at the House of Representatives, expressed sadness over the development and described the late Ogbara as a “brave” person.

“I, Hon L.B. Ayeni, join the entire APC family in Ijesa South federal constituency to commiserate the demise of our brother and leader, the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Atakunmosa East Central Local Government Area, Chief Gbenga Ogbara,” the statement reads.
“Chief Gbenga Ogbara was gruesomely murdered by unknown gunmen in his residence in the wee hours of the night of Sunday, 10th of April, 2022.
“I pray that God grants the bereaved, APC faithful in Ijesa South federal constituency, friends, and well-wishers the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
“We will definitely miss the wisdom, passion and bravery of this great leader.”
Meanwhile, the development comes amid preparations for the Osun governorship election scheduled to hold on July 16, 2022.
