Group raises N1m for Bamidele Olumilua University Ikere Ekiti

A social group named Sparkling Egalitarian Club (SEC), Ikere Ekiti has raised ₦1 million as part of its contribution to the smooth take off of the newly established Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, Ikere Ekiti (BOUESTI).

The group consists of 26 members and they have been group of friends for about 30 years now and they are celebrating the 30 years of their togetherness.

In lieu of this, they donated 1million to the progress of Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, Ikere Ekiti.

Members of the group are majorly medical doctors, Engineers, chartered accountants, big business moguls. The group is currently led by the Lord Mayor (president)Dr. Oluwole Oluwasuji .

The cheque for the money was received by Professor Olufemi, the Sapetu of Oke’kere on behalf of the Ogoga of Ikere Ekiti on Saturday in the palace.

The university is an upgrade of the College of Education in the town which was established in 1978.

The upgrade was done in October last year by the Ekiti State Government, with the Sparkling Egalitarian Club pledging to contribute money as part of the collaborative efforts to ensure the smooth running of the university.

At the presentation of the cheque, the Ogoga of Ikere, Oba Adejimi Adu, was represented by the Sapetu of Oke’kere, Professor Olufemi, who heartily commends the group for the gesture.

He however advised other groups in the community to emulate this development and contribute their quota to the development of the institution.

The monarch said “for sustainable development, no amount can be too much to expend on sound education”.

“Schools with more funds clearly have greater ability to provide higher quality, broader and deeper educational opportunities to the students they serve.

“We understand that without proper funding, efficiency and innovations are easily compromised.

The monarch commends the donors for sharing our vision and passion to make the university a world class and one we can all be proud of.

“The development of a nation or state depends on quality education of its citizenry. Education is the foundation of a country which brings wealth, social prosperity and economic stability.”
